Astronaut Discusses Space Flight with Hungarian Youth

Marsha S. Ivins, an astronaut who flew on 5 shuttle missions and visited the international space station, traveled around Hungary on December 5-8.
With university and high school students in Budapest, Szeged and Debrecen, Ivins shared her personal story and long journey to become an astronaut as well as discussed “everyday life” in space and the history of human spaceflight. She met Hungarian astronaut Bertalan Farkas and they swapped stories about their space flights.
She also met student space research teams, including the team that built the first Hungarian satellite and spoke with science journalists and members of the Astronautical Association.
Ivins emphasized that people can accomplish anything if they work hard enough, learn from mistakes and failures and never give up. Her desire is to see once again a man, or even better this time a woman, walk on the moon.
