Register for NIH Training Center Classes through the LMS!

The word NIHITS morphing in to the word LMSAs of July 2012, registration for NIH Training Center (NIHTC) classes is handled through the LMS (HHS Learning Portal) rather than through NIHITS. OHR collaborated with NBS to develop a custom financial interface with the LMS. Students can no longer register for NIHTC classes through NIHITS and should use the registration and approval process in the LMS instead.

How it Works

  • The NIHTC course catalog provides direct links to register for offerings in the LMS.  From there, students can register for a listed course after logging in to the LMS.
  • When registering for an NIHTC class in the LMS, learners receive email notification of changes to their registration status throughout the approval process. View a flowchart of the notifications you will receive.
  • If additional training approvals are needed outside of those roles specified in the LMS, follow the internal business processes defined by your IC.
  • A student can be confirmed in the class (space permitting) once the Additional Approver on Order approves the registration in the LMS and enters a valid CAN, allowing IC funds to be obligated.
  • Course completion credit is being directly tracked in the LMS.

NIHITS Decommissions: Update on External Training Payments

The NIHITS (NIH Integrated Training System) legacy system is being retired in September. The last day to use NIHITS to obligate external training payments to non-NIH vendors (e.g., Graduate School) is September 7.  After September 7, NIHITS will remain inaccessible.

It is crucial to keep track of any remaining external training payments by printing out the SF-182 documentation and maintaining a log of any external NIHITS orders made through September 7. After September 7, IC’s will not be able to track these orders in NIHITS.

For information on FY 13 external training procurement alternatives, please visit our How to Pay for Training page. For specific questions about your IC’s external training payments procedures, please contact your IC representative on the NIHITS-LMS IC Transition Working Group.

Back by Popular Demand! Popular Instructor Returns to the NIH Training Center for FY13

The NIH Training Center is pleased to offer another year of outstanding Acquisitions class instruction serving Contractor Officer Representative (COR) training requirements.  One of the instructors, Ms. Julie Taitt, has consistently received superb student evaluations on her Basic COR Training course. Participants speak highly of her deep knowledge of the material, ability to keep the class engaged, and the unique anecdotes she shares that help them to internalize the material.

One such participant, Cynthia M. Haggerty, a Technical Lab Manager in the National Cancer Institute commented,  “I just took the COR class through NIH Training Center. The class was excellent. Tough material. Excellent teacher. I learned A LOT!”

The Training Center is pleased to be bringing back Ms. Taitt and the rest of the acquisitions instruction team for another year of exceptional training. For more information on NIH Acquisitions training, please visit the NIHTC Acquisitions Management Course Catalog.

If you have a favorite instructor, let us know about it! Contact the NIHTC at training1@od.nih.gov.

Mid-Level Leadership Development Program – Accepting Nominations!

Series 7 and 8 nominations due from IC on November 26; see MLP page for details.  Apply now to be considered for one of these two next two MLP offerings!

The NIH Training Center (NIHTC) is now accepting nominations for the next two cohorts of its highly-regarded and multi-faceted, mid-level leadership development program. Filling a gap between the NIHTC collection of entry-level development and senior/executive leadership programs, this exciting program lessens the cascading impact of impending retirements and turnover in leadership positions, while providing a core component to a deliberate continuum of leadership development  for inspired NIH staff.
