Protection of NIH intellectual property can facilitate the commercial development of products or services that will benefit the public health. To assist NIH staff with this process, NIH has established procedures for reporting discoveries or inventions. In addition, NIH has established procedures for processing copyright requests for publications and for protecting the identity of NIH products or services using a trademark.
