About the Campaign

Car crashes are the #1 killer of teens, taking about 3,000 young lives every year. That's 8 teen deaths each day that can be prevented. To help teens avoid these deadly crashes, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is helping parents play a key role in keeping their teens safe on the road.

Through the "Parents Are the Key" campaign, CDC offers parents tools and proven steps for reducing teen driving injuries and deaths. Businesses and other groups can also help keep young drivers safe by spreading campaign message through posters, fact sheets, social media tools, and more.

In fall 2009, CDC conducted a 2-month pilot study of the "Parents Are the Key" campaign in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Columbus, Ohio, with the help of many of the participating organizations listed below and with funding from The Allstate Foundation.

Based on the success of the pilot, CDC has updated the campaign materials, which are now available to individuals and groups across the country.
