Intimate partner violence is a learned behavior that can be changed or prevented. It includes physical abuse, sexual abuse, threats, and emotional abuse. Often intimate partner violence starts with emotional abuse. This behavior can progress to physical or sexual abuse. Intimate partner violence is linked to harmful health behaviors as well, because victims may try to cope by smoking, drinking, taking drugs, or having risky sex. Take a few minutes to determine if you or others you care about are in an unhealthy relationship, and get help if needed.
