December 2012 data update to Warehouse (Release v 1.6.1)

This release involved the updating of data of many of the HIW indicators. For your reference purposes, we are including the HIW ID numbers in these detailed notes. No changes were made to the Warehouse interface or functions. Major changes for this release include:

  • Indicators associated with the Healthy People 2020 Initiative (HIW ID 368 through 1575) have been updated. Both the data and the metadata have been modified where new information was available. Some estimates that had previously been included in the HIW have changed, based on better analysis of the raw data. Furthermore, for some indicators, the first year of data presented has changed.
  • The three infant mortality indicators (Total (1158), Neonatal (1159) and Post-neonatal (1160)) were updated with estimates ending with the data year 2008.
  • Sexually transmitted disease indicators (chlamydia (20) and gonorrhea (10062)) were updated with 2010 data.
  • Eleven National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System indicators (10021 through 10032) were updated with 2010 data.
  • Data for 2010 for the toxic chemical release indicator (105) for 2010 were added.
  • Data for two air quality indicators from EPA (44 and 45) were replace with better estimates through 2006.
  • The indicator on the proportion of person < 65 without health insurance (23) at the county level was updated with 2010 data.
  • Several indicators from Census including population density (10001), median household income (10003), and estimated proportion of all persons (10004) and children (36) below the poverty line were updated with data through 2010.

The following indicators were modified substantially:

  • Primary care physician rate (25) was dropped due to concerns about the validity of the computed estimates.
  • Children with special health care needs who have access to a medical home (1154) is now measured using the National Survey of Children with Special Health Care Needs.
  • Number of days the Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeds 100 (665) now is weighted by the population and the AQI.

The following new indicators have been added:

  • Central line-associated bloodstream infections (851)
  • Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections (852)
  • Stroke awareness: symptoms and importance of calling 9-1-1 (887)
  • Stroke awareness: symptoms (888)
  • Stroke awareness: importance of calling 9-1-1 (889)
  • Sweetened beverages not offered: schools (10065)
  • Fruit/vegetable availability required: school districts (10066)
