CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden talks about obesity prevalence among low-income, preschool-aged children in New York City and Los Angeles County between 2003-2011. In New York City, the prevalence of obesity among children aged 3 or 4 years enrolled in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children decreased from 18.9% and 19.9%, respectively, in 2003 to 14.5% and 16.9%, respectively, in 2011. In Los Angeles County, obesity prevalence among children aged 3 or 4 years enrolled in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children increased from 16.3% and 17.2% in 2003 to 21.0% and 22.1%, respectively, in 2008, before decreasing from 21.0% and 22.4% in 2009 to 20.5% and 20.3%, respectively, in 2011.
