U.S. Department of Commerce Investment to Bring Critical Manufacturing Jobs to Wellsville, Missouri

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) today announced an $850,000 grant to the city of Wellsville, Missouri, and the Boonslick Regional Planning Commission to make critical infrastructure improvements needed to locate a new manufacturing facility and grow critical manufacturing-related jobs. The project is expected to create 180 new jobs and attract $105 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.

"The Obama administration is committed to helping rural areas build the infrastructure they need to attract new businesses and create jobs," said U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Matt Erskine. "The improvements that this EDA grant is funding will make an important contribution to the economic future of Wellsville and all of Montgomery County, Missouri."

The EDA funding will help Wellsville construct a new sewer interceptor line to connect to the city's existing water treatment facility. It will also fund the extension of wastewater collection lines into a new industrial site and upgrade a nearby railroad crossing, allowing it to accommodate increased truck and commercial traffic. The improvements will make it possible for a new manufacturing facility, with significant export potential, to locate in the city.
