GO-Biz Hosts Fresno Small Business Workshop to Discuss Healthcare, Training Funds and More

The Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) and the Valley Small Business Development Corporation today hosted a working lunch for small business owners in the Fresno area and provided information on healthcare compliance, workforce training funds and state resources to help grow businesses. Over 50 area small business owners attended the event held at the U.S. Small Business Administration office in downtown Fresno. “This event is an opportunity to engage small business owners in a dialogue and give them more resources to operate their business,” said GO-Biz Small Business Advocate, Barbara A. Vohryzek. “GO-Biz plans on holding these workshops across the state and Fresno is the first stop because it represents an area of critical importance to the Central Valley and the state as a whole.” ...Read More
GO-Biz Press Release: Senior Jobs Advisor Mike Rossi to Host Advanced Manufacturing Summit in March

The Governor’s Office for Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) will hold an advanced Manufacturing Summit at the Capitol on March 27th, 2013. The summit will be led by Governor Brown’s Senior Jobs Advisor Mike Rossi and will convene key stakeholders from education, industry, research and the state’s iHub innovation network.  The summit is a response to President Obama’s state of the union call for an expansion of the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI) with the opening of new Institutes of Manufacturing (IMI). This summit will be a coordination of stakeholders to craft California’s proposal to compete for new manufacturing institutes. “As the number one state for manufacturing jobs and output in the nation, California will lead the next generation of advanced manufacturing in America,” said Mike Rossi, senior jobs advisor to Governor Brown. “We heard the President’s call and California will respond.” ...Read More
GO-Biz Announces Additional Small Business Workshop Dates

The Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) is pleased to host a small business workshop with information on healthcare compliance, workforce training funds and resources to help grow your business. Director Michael Lujan from the State of California’s Health Benefit Exchange, newly named as Covered California, will explain how the Affordable Care Act will affect small businesses in California. Robert Meyer from the State of California’s Employment Training Panel will describe how small businesses can qualify for this program, which offers small businesses funding for workforce training. Barbara A. Vohryzek, Small Business Advocate from GO-Biz, will describe the range of services that GO-Biz provides to business owners. The inaugural workshop was held in February in Fresno. Upcoming workshops will be held in Emeryville, Sacramento, San Diego, and Los Angeles.

Amazon Announces its Third Fulfillment Center in California, Creating Hundreds of Jobs

Amazon today announced plans to open a new 1 million-square-foot, state-of-the-art fulfillment center in Tracy, California. The company will create hundreds of full-time jobs with benefits at the site. "This latest development in Tracy not only represents good jobs coming to the region but California's strong partnership with Amazon," said Kish Rajan, Director of the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development. "This third new distribution center marks a commitment by Amazon of over 1,000 California jobs in the last year alone.
