Clinic History      

Cadet Roscoe Robinson, Jr. Robinson Health Clinic is named for the first African-American to command the 82nd Airborne Division and reach the rank of General (four stars), General Roscoe Robinson, Jr. He entered into West Point in the class of 1951 after completing a year at St. Louis University. His first assignment after graduating and becoming a second lieutenant was as a platoon leader in the 3rd Battalion, 188th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division.

He first entered into combat in 1952 as a platoon leader in the 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War. He also served as a company commander and as S-2 and was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Bronze Star Medal. In 1967 he served in combat as the G-4 and later the battalion commander of the7th Calvary Regiment 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam. During his tour in Vietnam he was awarded two Silver Stars, the Distinguished Flying Cross, ten Air Medals and the Legion of Merit.
Robinson first served in the 82nd Airborne Division in 1962. He served as S-4 in the 2nd Battle Group of the 504 Parachute Infantry Regiment. He also served as commanding officer of E company. In 1972 he returned to the 82nd to command the 2nd Brigade at the rank of colonel. At the rank of Major General he returned to serve as the commander of the division in 1976.

In 1982 he was promoted to general as he served as the US representative for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Military Committee. He retired in 1985 after 34 years of service. In his time as a commissioned officer he was awarded Silver star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Legion of Merit with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, ten Air Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge second award, and Master Parachutist Badge.
