OB/GYN Staff

OUR STAFF

The Department of OB/GYN and Nurse Midwifery Services consists of a team of very talented medical providers dedicated to meeting your needs. All of our providers are Board Certified or Board Eligible, ensuring that you receive the best care possible!

Obstetrician-Gynecologist:
A doctor with special skills, training, and education in women's health care. For many women, the obstetrician-gynecologist (ob/gyn) is their primary care physician-the doctor they turn to first for health care. Your ob/gyn will provide prenatal care for uncomplicated or complicated pregnancy. Ob/gyn physicians can also provide surgical services as needed.

Certified Nurse Midwife:
This is an individual who is educated in the two disciplines of nursing and midwifery, and who possesses evidence of certification according to the requirements of the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM). Nurse midwifery practice is the independent management of women’s healthcare, focusing particularly on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn, family planning, and gynecological needs of women. Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) practice is in accordance with the standards for the practice of Nurse Midwifery, as defined by ACNM.

Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner:
This is a registered nurse with an advanced degree specializing in the care of women throughout their lifespan, including prenatal, contraception, and menopause. Nurse Practitioners can provide routine prenatal care and postpartum care with an emphasis on education and health promotion.

Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist:
A registered nurse with an advanced degree specializing in providing expert, personalized, care and case management for high risk obstetrical patients. The Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist (PCNS) manages and oversees the antenatal testing and diagnostic services for the department of OB-GYN. The goal of the PCNS is to provide integrated, team-centered, and coherent obstetrical care that surpasses any available in the region.

Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist:
A physician who has completed 2 – 3 years of Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) fellowship after completing four years of Obstetrics and Gynecology residency upon graduation from medical school. Fellowship training provides additional education and practical experience to gain special competence in various obstetrical, medical and surgical complications of pregnancy. The MFM specialist provides care or consultation for both mother and fetus (unborn baby) in a complicated pregnancy.

Uro-Gynecologist:
A physician who has completed additional training in a uro-gynecology fellowship after completing four years of an obstetrics and gynecology residency upon graduation from medical school. The uro-gynecologist specializes in pelvic reconstructive surgery and urinary and fecal incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.

Gynecologic Oncologist
Physician responsible for the evaluation and management of women afflicted with gynecologic malignancies and suspected malignancies;  evaluation and management of pre-invasive conditions of the female genital tract;  development and management of chemotherapy for gynecologic cancers; management for quality of life and end of life (palliative care) for terminally ill  gynecologic cancer patients.
