Usability.gov is the primary government source for information on usability and user-centered design. It provides guidance and tools on making Web sites and other communication systems more usable and useful.
This site is designed to assist Web managers, designers, usability specialists, and others create Web sites that are responsive, easy-to-use, and useful.
Site Management
Although this is a collaborative effort involving many federal agencies, the Digital Communications Division at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Office of the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs has primary responsibility for managing this Web site.
Linking to the Guidelines or Usability.gov
Though any site is welcome to link to Usability.gov and The Research-Based Web Design & Usability Guidelines, Usability.gov does not engage in reciprocal linking. Usability.gov and HHS.gov are official web sites for the U.S. government and are public domain websites. There is no cost or special permission required to link to them. The information on this site is not copyrighted.
Citing the Guidelines
HHS developed The Research-Based Web Design & Usability Guidelines, Enlarged/Expanded edition in partnership with the U.S. General Services Administration. Originally released in 2004, the current version was released in August 2006.
