TAKE ACTION: Support Wind Energy Jobs
UPDATE: The Wind Energy PTC has been extended, signed by President Obama on Jan. 2, 2013. Thanks to the efforts of thousands of Coloradans who signed the petition below, the PTC was approved by Congress as part of the fiscal cliff deal. The one-year extension of the credit gives manufacturers in Colorado and throughout North America the signal they need to create jobs, make capital investments in the United States and ensure that wind energy remains a strong part of our national energy strategy.
Since June, Udall has delivered 27 speeches on the U.S. Senate floor to encourage his colleagues to quickly extend the PTC. TWEET THIS
The Production Tax Credit for wind has helped attract clean energy businesses to invest in the United States, including Vestas, which created almost 2,000 jobs in Colorado. But this important investment in clean energy jobs is set to expire at the end of this year. Congress’ inaction has disrupted the wind energy industry, creating a level of uncertainty that is bad for business. Investors have held back millions of dollars in capital and declined to make any new commitments. It is one thing for Congress to take its time considering a new proposal, but the Production Tax Credit is widely supported and has already helped grow our economy. Until Congress acts, businesses in Colorado and across the country will be forced to shed jobs, dragging our economy backward. It is unacceptable for Congress not to pass this common-sense and badly needed piece of legislation. I plan to remind my colleagues on Capitol Hill about this bill and the steep cost of doing nothing for as long as it takes to get results. |
