Titan Inactivity Timeout Settings to Be Reduced
The NIH Data Center will be decreasing the inactivity timeout settings on the Titan system in order to comply with the NIH policy requiring termination of idle sessions after 30 minutes of inactivity. We will reduce the timeout settings for those Titan services that do not currently meet this 30-minute requirement. The services affected include TSO, Shadow Direct, and Oracle Gateway for DB2, all of which now are set to terminate idle sessions after two or more hours.
To minimize customer impact, we will phase in the reduction in the timeout settings over the next several months according to the following schedule:
November 14, 2010 – idle session timeout will be reduced to 90 minutes
December 26, 2010 – idle session timeout will be reduced to 60 minutes
February 6, 2011 – idle session timeout will be reduced to 30 minutes
Take steps to save your changes
Due to a shorter TSO inactivity timeout, there will be a greater risk of losing changes to unsaved TSO data sets. To ensure that your changes are saved, you should set your ISPF edit profile to RECOVERY MODE ON. This will provide you with the option of recovering data sets if your session is terminated and allow you to continue editing from your last changes the next time you login.
What is an edit profile?
An edit profile retains information that controls your ISPF edit session. Edit profiles are created and maintained automatically for you.
A separate edit profile is created for data sets based on the following three criteria: the data set type (the last qualifier in the data set name, e.g., CLIST or CNTL), the record format (fixed or variable), and the data length. Data sets that share these criteria will be covered by a single edit profile.
Example: If you have two data sets, both ending with the same qualifier in their name–CNTL, for example–and both defined with a record format of fixed block (FB) and a length of 80, then they will be covered by the same edit profile.
However, if you have two data sets, both ending with the name CLIST, but one is fixed 80 and the other is variable 255, then there will be two separate edit profiles. If you set RECOVERY MODE ON when editing the variable CLIST data set, the profile for the fixed CLIST data set is not affected. If you want RECOVERY MODE ON for the fixed CLIST data set as well, you must change that edit profile separately.
The maximum number of edit profiles is 25. If you exceed the maximum number of profiles, the least-recently used profile will be deleted to make room for the new profile.
How do I display/change my edit profile?
To display your edit profile, type PROFILE at the command line while in edit mode for a data set in your ISPF session.
Your profile will look similar to the following:
=PROF> ....GROUP (FIXED - 83)....RECOVERY OFF WARN....NUMBER OFF........................ =PROF> ....CAPS ON....HEX OFF....NULLS ON STD....TABS OFF........................................... =PROF> ....AUTOSAVE OFF PROMPT....AUTONUM OFF....AUTOLIST OFF....STATS OFF..... =PROF> ....PROFILE UNLOCK....IMACRO NONE....PACK OFF....NOTE ON........................... =PROF> ....HILITE OFF CURSOR FIND.................................................................................
RECOVERY OFF WARN indicates that RECOVERY mode is OFF.
=PROF> ....GROUP (FIXED - 83)....RECOVERY ON....NUMBER OFF............................. =PROF> ....CAPS ON....HEX OFF....NULLS ON STD....TABS OFF................................... =PROF> ....AUTOSAVE ON....AUTONUM OFF....AUTOLIST OFF....STATS OFF............. =PROF> ....PROFILE UNLOCK....IMACRO NONE....PACK OFF....NOTE ON................... =PROF> ....HILITE OFF CURSOR FIND..............................................
RECOVERY ON indicates that RECOVERY mode is ON.
To change your edit profile, do the following from the ISPF panels:
