CR110 - Introduction to CRIS for Nursing

    CRIS-Sunrise (also known as Sunrise Clinical Manager or SCM) is the Clinical Research Information System used by the NIH Clinical Center and Institute staff for entering orders, viewing results, and documenting patient care. This class is the first of three sessions that nursing staff must attend. The CRIS Introduction course provides hands-on experience and an overview of the CRIS-Sunrise functionality for Nursing Staff only. Users will learn how to locate patients, create patient lists, view results, orders and clinical documentation, and how to retrieve and print reports. Registered Nurses who attend this session should also attend CRIS Non-Prescriber Order Entry and the Clinical Documentation with Medication Charting sessions. Review of the appropriate CRIS Training modules prior to attending class is recommended.

Objectives:

    Upon completion of this course, the user will be able to:
  • Discuss Clinical Research Information System (CRIS) features
  • Access CRIS and navigate its screens
  • Locate a single patient or group of patients using various identifiers
  • View results, orders and select clinical documentation
  • Demonstrate patient information displays
  • Demonstrate how to retrieve and print a report
  • Explain the role of CRIS in supporting clinical research and patient care
  • Demonstrate how to navigate various CRIS features and functionalities
  • Identify how CRIS will improve clinical workflow and management of patient care
  • Successfully utilize CRIS according to their role description and security access
  • Recommended that before attending class, students complete and return a CRIS Access Form, which is required for assignment of privileges.
