9-1-1 has become the official and universal number to call for emergency help in the USA. It is a proven life-saving service to the public. Recognizing the critical importance of emergency communication to EMS and transportation, the US Department of Transportation has undertaken two major projects to enhance the nationwide 9-1-1 services:
