Dose Rate Effect of Radiation Exposure

Acute Radiation Syndrome occurs after whole- or partial-body exposure radiation dose >1 Gy, at high dose rate.

  • 100 rem in 5 minutes or less may cause radiation sickness
  • 100 rem at 0.02 rem/day spread over 20 years does not cause radiation sickness
