Sudanese and South Sudanese: DHS has Announced Re-designations and 18-Month Extensions of TPS

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a re-designation of temporary protected status (TPS) for Sudan and South Sudan and an extension of all existing TPS designations for both countries due to ongoing conflict in the region.

Sudanese and South Sudanese nationals are eligible to apply for TPS. Those who already have TPS must re-register between January 9, 2013 and March 11, 2013. Any Sudanese or South Sudanese national interested in obtaining TPS status must apply between January 9, 2013, and July 8, 2013. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recommends that eligible Sudanese and South Sudanese nationals apply for TPS as soon as possible.
