Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Technology Transfer evaluates, protects, monitors, and manages the intramural NIH and U.S. Food and Drug Administration invention portfolios and is responsible for the central development and implementation of technology transfer policies for NIH. The office is a resource on intellectual property issues that may arise within certain public-private partnerships. To find more information about the NIH Office of Technology Transfer and technology transfer contacts at NIH Institutes and Centers, visit http://www.ott.nih.gov. This site also provides information about Cooperative Research and Development Agreements and Material Transfer Agreements.

The management of intellectual property rights involving extramural public-private partnerships may be different from when the NIH intramural program is involved. NIH policy for extramural activities with respect to intellectual property may be found at the Office of Extramural Research Intellectual Property Policy .
