The Audio Visual archive at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum contains over 2 million photographs, 12,400 videos, and 5,900 audio cassettes documenting the Clinton Administration from 1993-2001. Photos
The majority of the photographs that document the Clinton Administration from 1993-2001 were created by the White House photographers. The photographs include speeches, events, bill signings, trips, Clinton family, photos of individuals with President Clinton, and much more. A limited number of photos documenting Mr. Clinton and Mrs. Clinton’s family life prior to 1993 are also available.

Request Photos:
When requesting photos please refer to the photos by their Clinton Presidential photograph identifier, found in the caption of each image.
Example of a photo identifier is “P75000-05.” With Historical Clinton Family photographs the image identifiers begin with the letter H, such as “H03-02.”
We routinely email researchers low resolution images for preview and use if low resolution is all that is needed for a request. Please contact the AV staff for more information at clinton.library@nara.gov.
Reproductions:
Clinton Presidential photo reproductions can be purchased from the William J. Clinton Library & Museum.
The Audio Visual Department can reproduce high resolution images in a variety of formats for a fee of $16.50 per image ordered. Check out the full reproduction price list.

The majority of video recordings were created by the White House Television Office (WHTV). The WHTV collection consists of over 12,400 Master Tape Betacam and Digital Betacam video recordings. The video recordings contain footage of inaugurations, speeches, events, meetings, State of the Union addresses, and much more.

When requesting videos please refer to each video by its MT (Master Tape) number, such as “MT00004.” The MT number is found in the released video title list.

Reproductions:
White House Television Office (WHTV) videos can be reproduced by the Audio Visual Department. Reproductions are available in two formats:
- Video to video transfer on Digital Betacam (up to three Master Tapes) for $150.00 per reproduction
OR
- DVD-R copies with a variety of video codec's available such as: AVI, DV, MP4, WMV, etc. for a fee of $ 50.00 per event

The audio cassette recordings were created by the White House Communications Agency (WHCA). The recordings document the actions and service of President William J. Clinton, including speeches and events.

Audio recordings refer to specific events in which President Clinton or his administration took part. There are no indexes of audio recordings available from the William J. Clinton Library at this time. Find speeches and events by using the American Presidency Project and the Public Papers of the Presidents.
These websites are keyword and date searchable. Most of the material from the Public Papers of the President will be available in audio and video formats in our collections.
Request Audio Recordings:
After finding the speech or event please contact the Audio Visual Department at clinton.library@nara.gov to obtain access to the audio recordings.
Please provide as much information as possible such as: date, location, title of event, subject, and participants.
Reproductions of Recordings:
Digital reproductions can be made of the recordings in a variety of formats such as MP3, WMA, WAV, and others. Reproductions cost $20.00 per event ordered.

The audio recordings are in the public domain. There are no copyrights associated to WHCA Recordings.

When you arrive
- Check in with the admissions desk in the lobby of the Museum. An archivist will be sent to escort you to the audio visual research room.
- The archivist will conduct a brief orientation and you will fill out a short application. Please have a photo ID with you. You will receive a research card valid for one year.
- You will be provided with a locker for storage of your personal items.
What you can bring into the research room
- Laptop
- Digital camera
- Flash must turned off; no other external light sources are permitted.
- Flat-bed scanner
- Must be approved by archivist, no top-feeding scanners are permitted.
- Notes
- Only a few pages of notes will be allowed inside the research room.
- Prior to entry the notes will be examined by an archivist and stamped “Approved by Clinton Library.”
- Cell phone
- Please set to vibrate or silent.
- Please step out of the audio visual research room to make or receive calls.
Not allowed in the Research Room
- Paper, pens, pencils, or other writing implements
- Pencils & scratch paper will be provided.
- Food or drink, including chewing gum
- Purses, backpacks, briefcases, laptop bags, etc.
- Lockers are provided for researchers at no cost.

I had my photo taken with President Clinton, how do I find it?
If you had your photo taken with President Clinton you are entitled to the photograph(s), and can request a copy of the photograph(s).
Please provide the following information in your request:
- The date, location, and/or event where the photograph was taken, in addition to any particular information you may remember about the occurrence.
- If possible please include a photograph of yourself taken around the same time as the photo with President Clinton; this will help in identifying you.
Please note that the audio Visual Department does not guarantee they will be able to fulfill a request for such materials if they are unable to locate responsive materials.

Do I need an appointment to do research?
Yes. All researchers wishing to conduct audio/visual research need to schedule an appointment in advance. Due to the nature of the storage practices of the audio/visual collections, extra time is needed to prepare these materials for research. How do I obtain a recent photo of President Clinton?
Excluding the major media outlets, the Clinton Foundation is the current supplier of post-presidential materials for President Clinton, and is able to provide access to recently taken photographs and video. They have a separate rate and stipulations for reproduction as they are a separate entity from the National Archives and Records Administration. Please contact the Clinton Foundation regarding access to recent photographs of President Clinton.
Do you have pre-presidential materials, such as gubernatorial photographs?
The Audio Visual Department has a very small selection of pre-presidential materials, which are primarily selected photographs by the White House for historical purposes. For such materials please contact us directly at the Audio Visual Department for suggestions on access and extent of collection.
