For Citizens Seeking Surplus Property

Personal Property refers to tangible items ranging from common products – such as office equipment and furniture – to specialized apparatus – including scientific devices and heavy machinery. If this personal property is not acquired by a state or public organization, the general public can buy it from GSA through GSA Auctions® and GSA Surplus Personal Property Sales.

Remember, there are:

  • No Giveaways: Stories about $100 yachts or exotic cars sold for little or nothing are pure fiction. GSA expects to receive a fair market price. GSA has a responsibility to the taxpayers to receive the best possible return on the tax dollar when they are sold.
  • No Guarantees: GSA does not guarantee the condition of sale items. Customers are encouraged to inspect personal property prior to sale. GSA will inform a customer of any deficiencies  prior to sale. GSA is not responsible for any problems identified after the sale.

  • Surplus Personal Property Sales: Find personal property using one of a variety of sales methods including live auction, fixed price, drop-by, and sealed bid.
  • GSA AutoAuctions: Find lists of GSA fleet vehicles that have completed their lease terms for sale, auction locations, and times as well as a description of the process.
  • GovSales: Search for surplus personal and real property (buildings, land, and housing) sales, both online and offline, and connect to the federal government's approved Sales Centers' websites to bid on or buy items.
  • Computers for Learning (CFL) allows schools and educational non-profit organizations to obtain excess computer equipment directly from federal agencies.
