Disaster Health Information Sources: The Basics
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the essential resources needed to provide health-related information services for supporting disaster mitigation, planning, response, and recovery. This course meets one of the requirements for the Medical Library Association Disaster Information Specialization at the basic level.
Roadmap to Disaster Health Information Resources and Tools
This course introduces many of the disaster health information sources available on the Internet. Knowing where to find information before a disaster or public health emergency is key to disaster preparedness. Disaster information tools, such as WISER and REMM, are highlighted. IS-700.a National Incident Management System (NIMS): An Introduction
This course introduces and provides an overview of the National Incident Management System (NIMS). NIMS provides a consistent nationwide template to enable all government, private-sector, and nongovernmental organizations to work together during domestic incidents. This course meets one of the requirements for the Medical Library Association Disaster Information Specialization at the basic level.
IS-100.b Introduction to Incident Command System, ICS-100
This course describes the history, features and principles, and organizational structure of the Incident Command System (ICS). ICS is a standardized approach to incident management that enables a coordinated response among various jurisdictions and agencies; establishes common processes for planning and managing resources; and allows for the integration of facilities, equipment, personnel, procedures, and communications operating within a common organizational structure. This course meets one of the requirements for the Medical Library Association Disaster Information Specialization at the basic level.
Ethical and Legal Aspects of Disaster Response
This course provides an overview of the ethical principles and legal standards that have been applied to health care, public health, and emergency management in disasters, with recommendations for sources of this information. This course meets one of the requirements for the Medical Library Association Disaster Information Specialization at the advanced level.
A Seat at the Table: Working with Local Responders
This course covers the basics of initiating and developing relationships with all relevant local, state, and federal officials and agencies as well as with emergency responders. This course meets one of the requirements for the Medical Library Association Disaster Information Specialization at the advanced level.
Health and Disasters: Understanding the International Context
This course looks at who's who (and why) in the international disaster community, their roles and responsibilities in pre- and post-disaster situations, and the type of information that they may offer or require to respond to real or perceived needs, with a particular focus on health. This course meets one of the requirements for the Medical Library Association Disaster Information Specialization at the advanced level.
