About the Epidemiology and Genomics Research Program
Epidemiology is the scientific study of the causes and distribution of disease in populations. NCI-funded epidemiology research is conducted within institutions and centers in the United States and internationally with funding through the extramural Epidemiology and Genomics Research Program (EGRP), other Programs in the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS), and NCI’s intramural Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG).
EGRP provides opportunities for scientists to increase understanding of cancer causes and prevention in human populations. EGRP is the largest funder of etiologic cancer epidemiology grants nationally and worldwide.
EGRP’s Mission
EGRP funds research in human populations to understand the causes of cancer and related outcomes. The Program fosters interdisciplinary collaborations and the development and use of resources and technologies to advance cancer research and its translation to serve as the basis for clinical and public health interventions.
EGRP’s Vision
To reduce the cancer burden in human populations by identifying determinants of cancer risks and improving outcomes.
