Session Cookies are stored temporarily to your computer and last only as long as your Web browser is open. Once you close your browser, the cookie becomes inactive.

Persistent cookies store information on your computer for longer periods. This type of cookie will remain on your hard drive until it reaches its expiration date or is deleted by you.

The following describes the limited use of persistent cookies on FDIC Web pages:

  • Statistics on Depository Institutions (SDI) (www.sdi.fdic.gov). The SDI Web site allows you to create detailed financial reports on FDIC-insured institutions and bank holding companies, including reports containing "customized peer groups." The SDI Web site only will place a persistent cookie on your computer when you choose the "Save" feature and enter your work e-mail address in order to store your customized reports on the SDI Web server. The cookie allows you to retrieve the customized report information at a later date. No other contact information is collected or stored by the cookie or the SDI Web site. For further information about SDI's use of a persistent cookie, visit: http://www2.fdic.gov/SDI/disabled.asp.

  • FDICconnect (www.fdicconnect.gov). The FDICconnect Web site provides a secure channel for the conduct of business between FDIC and FDIC-insured institutions and other government regulators. You must register and be approved by FDIC to use this site. FDICconnect places a persistent cookie on your computer at the time you register. The cookie prevents you from logging back into FDICconnect for a period of 5 minutes, to provide the system time to complete processing your registration. The cookie captures no personally identifiable information and expires 5 minutes after it is created. You can set your browser to warn you when placement of a cookie is requested, and decide whether or not to accept it. Rejecting this cookie will not affect your use of FDICconnect, but could result in an error message should you attempt to log in before your account is fully processed. For further information about FDICconnect, visit: www.fdicconnect.gov.
