Mission

The Defense Post Office (DPO) is designated as the official delivery and pick-up point for official mail within the Pentagon. The DPO currently supports the Pentagon and its tenant activities by providing for the receipt, distribution and dispatch of all mail and packages delivered by the USPS.

DPO customers include those employees of the Pentagon and locations at the Mark Center, Rosslyn Plaza North, Presidential Towers, Crystal City, Navy Annex (FOB2), Henderson Hall, commercial vendors in the Pentagon, and commercial carriers.

DPO is an entity in the Executive Services Directorate managed by the Correspondence Management Division.

Official Mail Services

  • Tenant organizations assigned ZIP+four Codes (e.g., 22301-1000, 22350-3000).
  • Tenant mail boxes and outgoing drop box available 24/7.
  • Receive, sort and process incoming USPS official mail and interoffice correspondence.
  • Receive, process and meter outgoing USPS domestic, international and overnight express mail.
  • Assist in resolving general mail and/or distribution problems.
  • Provide guidance on mail preparation and processing.
  • Provide guidance (upon request) on USPS regulations and manuals, internal regulations or directives, standard operating procedures and policy letters regarding mail services.
  • Provide information about mail security.
  • Receive and process undeliverable, return to sender and misdirected mail received via the USPS.
  • Review and forward improperly addressed mail and inter-office correspondence.
  • Initiate tracking actions on USPS registered, certified, express and delivery confirmation mail with the USPS as necessary.
