TALX (The Employment and Income Verification System) at NIH

Overview

In conjunction with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the Office of Human Resources (OHR) at NIH is pleased to announce the launch of TALX – Your Secure One Stop Solution to Employment and Income Verification.

On June 4, 2012, TALX was implemented at NIH. TALX The Work Number® provides a secure way for verifiers to obtain your employment information.  TALX is widely used by mortgage lenders, banks, leasing companies, and others to verify proof of employment and income of employees. It is quick, simple, and efficient, and speeds up the credit/loan application process.

You must give someone authorization to get your income information from the service. There are numerous ways in which you can give someone authorization to access your income information such as by signing a borrower’s authorization form when applying for a loan.

This verification system uses a 128-bit SSL encryption in all of the account areas where personal information is being exchanged.  In addition, they have a detailed privacy policy that reviews what they do, and more importantly, what they do not do with information they gather while someone is using the phone system or website.

How it Works?

This automated service provides quick and easy access to employment information.  No more need for faxing, mailing, or phone-calling that slows down the closing of loans or other employee business that requires a verification of employment.  Now, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, employers can pick up the phone or log onto the web to verify this employment and salary information.

NIH employees can use TALX The Work Number® in three easy steps:

  1. Authorize the verification by completing the verifier’s (lender’s, bank, etc.) authorization form.
  2. Provide the verifier with:
  3. Sit back and relax!

Key Advantages for Employees

  • Quick/Simple – Secure Automated verification service
  • Time Efficient – Speeds up credit/loan application process
  • Verify Anytime/Anywhere – Accessible 24 hours a day/7 days a week
  • Widely used by most companies
  • No cost to employees ***

***  Please note that TALX charges fees to verifiers. However because many lenders, such as banks and mortgage companies, that required HR verification are already subscribed to TALX, it is rare that such verifiers will pass on the charges to an HHS employee. If a verifier decides to pass on the charges to an employee, HHS has an agreement with TALX to reimburse the employee for the verification fees.

NIH employees who have been charged for a verification can contact HR Systems Support at HRSS@mail.nih.gov for steps to get reimbursed.
