Each summer, when schools let out, tens of thousands of students across America turn to internships to supplement what they've learned in their classes. And when some of these young men and women come to DOT, it's a terrific opportunity for them to see how government works and to learn from transportation professionals.
If we want to keep America's transportation system moving forward, we will need young people to pursue jobs in transportation-related fields. So these internships at DOT are also an opportunity for us to get students excited about transportation careers.
At the end of the summer, we held a town hall event with many of our interns; they asked a number of terrific questions, and we've turned them into our September episode of "On the Go." Whether they were asking about policy, safety, or the future of transportation, they highlighted several important topics; and in this latest "On the Go," I have a few answers.
