Stimulus funds provide jobs at Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge: Recovery Act buoys Colorado businesses

Walden, Colo. – Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge near North Park will receive over $300,000 of Recovery Act money to work on two major projects. Two Colorado based companies won competitive bids to complete the projects. Walden-based Rocky Mountain Fence will replace a boundary fence with a more wildlife-friendly one, replacing ones that inhibited wildlife movement. Hydro Electric, a Bellvue, Colorado, company will install solar panels on the refuge.

$12.7 Million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Funding Awarded to California Company for Final Phase of Contra Costa Canal Fish Screen Structure

The Department of the Interior announced today that the Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $12.7 million contract for the third and final phase of the Contra Costa Canal Fish Screen at Rock Slough project under the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The work was awarded to Flat Iron West, Inc., of Benicia, Calif.

Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery to Receive New Lighting and Doors

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has awarded a contract of $28,850 to 3-J Ventures of Berea, Ky., under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, popularly known as stimulus funds, to make energy-efficiency improvements at the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery in Jamestown, Ky. The funds will be used to install new energy-efficient light fixtures in two of the hatchery buildings, which house the egg hatching, fry rearing, crew office, maintenance shop, feed storage, vehicle/equipment storage and Threatened & Endangered species culture areas.

Utah State University Archaeologists Conduct Survey on National Elk Refuge

LOGAN, UTAH – The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service awarded Logan, Utah-based USU Archeological Services (USUAS) a contract to conduct an archaeological inventory on the National Elk Refuge in Jackson, Wyoming. Shirley, N.Y. – Groundbreaking occurred today at the Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge for a $9.775 million visitor center and headquarters for the nine national wildlife refuges located on Long Island. Three Pacific Northwest contractors awarded $412,000 in stimulus funding to upgrade facilities at Quinault National Fish Hatchery

The Quinault (kwin-ALT) National Fish Hatchery will benefit from three contracts to replace a hatchery roof, repair a settling pond, and replace a slide gate at the western Washington facility. The Department of the Interior’s U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced it will provide more than four-hundred thousand in stimulus funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the projects, all of which are designed to help the hatchery meet its annual salmon and steelhead production goals.

California and Washington companies awarded a combined $335,000 in stimulus funding for upgrades at Eagle Creek National Fish Hatchery

The Eagle Creek National Fish Hatchery will benefit from a pair of contracts to address safety and energy concerns at the Estacada (es-tuh-cay-duh) Oregon facility. The Department of the Interior’s U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced it will provide more than $338,000 in stimulus funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to replace unsafe walkways on fish production raceways and replace outdated wiring and climate control systems at the facility’s main building. The funding is expected to employ approximately 21 workers.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Awards $3 Million to Colorado Company for Recovery Act project at Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR

Denver, Colo. – Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today announced a $5.9 million contract award going to Colorado Springs based B & M Phipps Joint Venture for a new visitor center and other construction projects at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. Approximately $3 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds will help pay for the new center, complete with an auditorium, exhibits about the Arsenal’s history and wildlife, and interpretive classroom. The building will incorporate several green components including geothermal heating, solar array, energy-efficient fixtures, renewable resource construction materials, and natural lighting.

Two companies awarded $654,000 in stimulus funding for upgrades at Carson National Fish Hatchery

The Carson National Fish Hatchery will benefit from a pair of contracts to address predator and safety concerns at the southern Washington facility. The Department of the Interior’s U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced it will provide more than $654,000 in stimulus funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to construct predator exclusion covers and replace unsafe fish crowders. The funding is expected to employ approximately 25 workers.

Washington Company Awarded $331,000 in Stimulus Funding for Irrigation Replacement at Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge

For Immediate Release: May 5, 2010
The Umatilla (yoo-ma-till-a) National Wildlife Refuge will benefit from a pair of contracts to replace fatigued water pipelines at the Oregon facility. The Department of the Interior’s U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced it will provide more than $280,000 in stimulus funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to remove deteriorated steel irrigation pipelines with PVC pipe at the McCormack and Whitcomb units at the refuge. The irrigation system is used to grow wheat and barley for wintering waterfowl.
