About WIN

The Weight-control Information Network (WIN) is an information service of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Established in 1994, WIN provides the general public, health professionals, and the media with up-to-date, science-based information on obesity, weight control, physical activity, and related nutritional issues. WIN also developed Sisters Together: Move More, Eat Better, a national program to encourage black women to maintain a healthy weight by becoming more physically active and eating healthier foods.

What does WIN offer?

WIN provides fact sheets and brochures for a range of audiences, including parents, men, African American women, children, and many others. Some of WIN's materials are available in both English and Spanish, like the series Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Across Your Lifespan. WIN also operates a toll-free telephone line to respond to requests from the public.

How can WIN help you?

WIN can provide you with information over the phone, send you resources, and update you on the latest information from the NIDDK.

  • Call a WIN representative. WIN cannot provide health advice specific to each caller, but WIN representatives can share information on the topics of weight loss, healthy eating, obesity, and physical activity. Call 1–877–946–4627 (toll-free) to speak to a representative.
  • Read, order, and share WIN materials. Consider printing, copying, and sharing WIN's materials to encourage healthy eating and regular physical activity among your family members and friends, or in your community. WIN's materials are not copyrighted, so we encourage you to browse our Publications page and share WIN's materials widely. You may also visit our Order page to learn how to order printed copies of our publications.
  • Subscribe to WIN's newsletter. To stay up to date on the latest news and materials from the NIDDK and WIN, visit the NIDDK Email Updates page, enter your email address, and select "WIN Notes" under the bolded heading "Weight Control and Nutrition" on the subscription page.
