NHGRI Funding Opportunity
The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has issued a funding opportunity announcement (FOA) of special interest to our biomedical informatics community. Titled “Clinically Relevant Genetic Variants Resource: A Unified Approach for Identifying Genetic Variants for Clinical Use,” this FOA has the following goals: (1) identifying genetic variants with likely implications for clinical care; (2) incorporating these variants and supporting evidence into a resource that can serve as the substrate for the development of practice guidelines; (3) establishing a process for transferring this information to appropriate organizations for the development of these guidelines; and (4) engaging, coordinating, and building upon existing programs while reducing duplicative efforts to identify such variants across numerous research and clinical organizations.
