Travel Regulations

The Joint Federal Travel Regulation (JFTR) is for for members of the Uniformed Services of the United States. The JTFR contains regulations related to per diem, travel and transportation allowances, relocation allowances, and certain other allowances.

The Joint Travel Regulation (JTR) is for DoD civilian employees and civilians who travel using DoD funding. The JTR contains regulations related to per diem, travel and transportation allowances, relocation allowances, and certain other allowances.

The Department of Defense Financial Management Regulation, Volume 9: Travel Policy and Procedures provides supplemental instructions regarding the payment of allowances authorized by the JFTR/JTR. The DoD FMR applies to all personnel traveling under orders funded by the DoD, including:
  • Military members
  • Reserve component members
  • Civilian employees
  • Dependents on official orders
  • Travelers on DoD invitational travel authorizations
