Safety Precaution: Climbing Mount Fuji
Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan (3,776 m) and attracts more than 300,000 climbers every year during the official climbing season (July to August). More and more foreigners have climbed Mount Fuji in recent years. Unfortunately, some climbers attempt to climb Mount Fuji during the off-season, which is considered dangerous.
Every year, a number of climbers - including Americans - are killed while attempting to climb Mount Fuji. Japan's National Police Agency has recently issued a notice in English for Mount Fuji climbers. Please read the notice carefully.
