About Consular Affairs

The mission of the Bureau of Consular Affairs ('CA)' is to protect the lives and interests of American citizens overseas and to strengthen U.S. border security.  Consular work is about touching people’s lives in a thousand different ways every day.  We deal with events and issues that have a personal impact: birth, death, marriage, adoption, child custody, citizenship, and relocation to another country.  CA provides the passports that enable Americans to travel internationally and stands ready to lend a helping hand when citizens fall victim to crime, accident or illness in other countries, or just want to vote absentee. Consular Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in London consists of the American Citizen Services section and the Visa section.

Our American Citizen Services section ('ACS'') provides information and assistance to U.S. citizens in the United Kingdom. 
The ACS section consists of the Passport & Citizenship Unit, the Special Consular Services Unit, and the Federal Benefits Unit. 

Our Visa section offers nonimmigrant and immigrant visa services.  A visa entitles the holder to travel to the United States and apply for admission; it does not guarantee entry.  An immigration inspector at the port of entry determines the visa holder's eligibility for admission into the United States.

We use a courier service, DX-Secure, for deliveries on behalf of the Consular Section.

Visitors to the Consular section are asked to read the Security Notice for those visiting the Consular Section and to note that they may not bring large bags or electronic devices into the Embassy.
