USCIS Wins “International Innovation Award” for Redesigned Green Card

In May, 2010, USCIS began issuing redesigned Green Cards in a newer, more secure format.

This past week, USCIS won the ACT Canada “International Innovation Award” for its “application of secure innovations to the U.S. Green Card’s structure and its data and visual security features.”

This award recognizes our efforts to increase document security and prevent fraud and identity theft to protect those that we serve. We continue to look for ways to improve the integrity and security of our documents and the systems with which we serve our customers.

Fighting Fraud: E-Verify Can Now Verify Driver’s Licenses

E-Verify was recently upgraded to include a driver’s license verification feature. This is significant because driver’s licenses are presented by more than 80% of new hires to establish their identity during the employment eligibility verification process.

Mississippi is the first state to partner with the Department of Homeland Security to make driver’s license data available to be checked through E-Verify. E-Verify has an extremely high accuracy rate, and this anti-fraud enhancement makes the system even more reliable. In addition, E-Verify has recently added user-focused enhancements, including more help functions and streamlined enrollment.

24,000 New Citizens Celebrate Independence Day

To celebrate America’s 235th birthday, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services welcomed more than 24,000 new citizens at approximately 350 naturalization ceremonies around the globe. Nothing is more patriotic than saying the Oath of Allegiance while also celebrating the nation’s independence.
