The cornerstone of the NIH mission is to help communicate useful health and science information to a diverse group of audiences, including health care professionals and the public. The goal is to provide them with the necessary information and tools to make informed decisions about their health and the health of their patients.

    National Eye Institute
    The goal of The National Eye Health Education Program is to translate eye and vision research into public and professional education programs to increase awareness of scientific information for blindness prevention and vision preservation. Both early detection and timely treatment are emphasized, using strategies that are culturally appropriate, health-literate, and evidence-based.


  • The Heart Truth
    National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI)
    Women between the ages of 40 and 60 and women of color are at a disproportionally higher risk for heart disease. The Heart Truth campaign, which includes the Red Dress as its symbol, seeks to give women a personal and urgent wakeup call about their risk of heart disease, in order to prevent its onset.

We Can! is a national movement designed to empower parents, caregivers, and communities with ways to help children stay at a healthy weight to prevent obesity and its comorbidities.

  • It’s a Noisy Planet: Protect Their Hearing

    Noise-induced hearing loss is a permanent and preventable condition affecting many children in this country. This web-based campaign is designed to educate both the public and professionals about the causes and prevention of noise-induced hearing loss.

    Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in this country and is the leading cause of serious long-term disabilities. This campaign’s purpose is to educate the public about the symptoms of stroke and the importance of getting to the hospital quickly to prevent stroke-related death. The campaign includes outreach to consumers and health care professionals using mass media, grassroots outreach, partnerships, and community education.
