Reality for Anatomic Education and Surgical Planning
Jonathan C. Silverstein, M.D.
2008-002
Virtual reality has been variably defined and surgical education remains somewhat ambiguous in the community at large despite a number of careful studies. This talk will explore features of these domains, offer some definitions to provide context, and describe work in the cognitive aspects of anatomic learning using high performance stereoscopic visualization and communication systems. Specifically, we'll look at studies in teaching anatomy to undergraduates, medical students, and surgical residents, as well as early results in surgical planning and future uses of auto-colorized interactive stereoscopic radiological data. Dr. Jonathan Silverstein is Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery, UC and Associate Director of the Computation Institute, UC. He currently serves on the LHNCBC Board of Scientific Counselors.
