What types of information can I access using this website?
This database contains information on accrediting agencies and the institutions, programs, internships, and residencies that they accredit.

How do I conduct a search for a specific school?
On the Institution Search screen, enter the name of the school in the “Name of Institution” field and then click on the “Search” button or hit “Enter” on your keyboard.

How do I search for an institution accredited by a specific accrediting agency?
Click on the gray “Search by Accrediting Agency” tab. Under the Current Agency Search heading, scroll through the Institutional Accrediting Agencies list or the Specialized or Programmatic Accrediting Agencies list to locate the agency name. Click on the name of the agency, and then click on the “Search” button at the bottom of the screen.

If I do not find the specific school that I’m searching for, what should I do?
First try entering the school name in a different format. For example, if you are searching for U.C.L.A., try UCLA, or University of California-Los Angeles, or University of California. If you still can’t find the school, search by the city and/or state where the school is located.
Please note that the database does not include a number of postsecondary educational institutions and programs that elect not to seek accreditation but nevertheless may provide a quality postsecondary education.

How do I search for an internship, residency, or program-only site accredited by a specific accrediting agency?
Click on the button labeled “Click here to search for Internships/Residencies/Programs.” Scroll through the list of Specialized or Programmatic Accrediting Agencies list to locate the agency name. Click on the name of the agency, and then click on the “Search” button at the bottom of the screen.

How do I conduct a search for a specific internship, residency, or program-only site?
Click on the button labeled “Click here to search for Internships/Residencies/Programs.” Click on the gray “Search by Institution/Site” tab. Enter the name of the school in the “Name of Site” field and then click on the “Search” button or hit “Enter” on your keyboard.

Can I search for foreign institutions on this website?
Institutions and programs outside the United States and its outlying areas are not included in this database.

Are State agencies included in this database?
Yes, the database includes State agencies that are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. These are State agencies for the approval of public postsecondary vocational education and State agencies for the approval of nurse education.

How was the information contained in this database compiled?
The database is compiled entirely from publicly available information obtained by the U.S. Department of Education from recognized accrediting agencies and state approval agencies.

Is it possible to download the list of all accredited institutions?
Yes. A data download is available by going to the home page and selecting the "Download Accreditation data for all institutions, programs and sites" link. This data is provided as a public service without warranty of any kind. No technical assistance is available for the use of the file.

Is it possible to download a subset of the list of all accredited institutions?
Yes. Go to the Search page by clicking on the "Get Data for one accredited institution/campus/site" link on the homepage, enter your search criteria, and click the "Export Accreditation Data of Results" button at the top of the results page. This data is provided as a public service without warranty of any kind. No technical assistance is available for the use of the file.

Does the database list schools that have closed?
We are in the process of collecting historical information. This includes formerly accredited institutions that have closed, institutions that have lost or resigned their accreditation, and prior names and addresses of currently accredited institutions. This information is added to the database as it is received.
