What is the purpose of the study?
This study uses Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), which is one way scientists can study the brain. TMS sends magnetic pulses through a person's skull to learn change brain cell activity. NIDA wants to see how TMS affects cigarette smoking.

Who can participate in the study?
This study is accepting men and women who:

• Are 18 years of age or older
• Smoke cigarettes every day
• Have no personal or family history of seizures
• Are in generally good health

What will participants be asked to do?
This study consists of 10 study visits over 3 weeks, which last about 1–4 hours each.

Participants will:

• Provide urine and breath samples
• Have 2 MRI brain scans
• Complete 5 visits with TMS
• Complete questionnaires and computer-based thinking tasks

Where is the study taking place?
This study takes place on the grounds of the Spring Grove Hospital Center Campus in Catonsville, Maryland and the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus in East Baltimore. It is sponsored by the NIDA Intramural Research Program and the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center.

How much does it cost?
There is no cost for participation.

Will I receive payment of some kind?
All study participants will be paid for their time and travel.
