Modeling to guide public health research and priorities

Esophagus Cancer Modeling

The CISNET esophagus cancer group was formed and initiated in 2010 in the third round of CISNET funding with three distinct modeling teams focused on the collaboratively modeling the incidence and mortality of esophageal adenocarcinoma in the US population. The group’s work will include establishing common inputs for current and hypothetical screening strategies, chemoprevention, and endoscopic therapy such as ablation.

After a preliminary round of cost-effectiveness analysis are completed with these traditional strategies, the group will extend the models with components that address cell and tissue-level neoplastic progression which, in turn, will permit analysis of screening and management strategies that involve biomarkers.

The results from previous and ongoing research efforts will be presented interactively to decision-makers in cancer control to inform policy decisions.
