Biosketch:
Dr. Carol J. Goter-Robinson joined NIDDK as a Scientific Review Administrator in July, 2004. Dr. Goter-Robinson earned her Ph.D. in Immunology with a focus on immunotoxicology from The Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. Prior to earning her Ph.D., she was employed by the FDA as a research scientist. At the FDA, her work focused first on developing animal models of exogenously-induced autoimmunity and subsequently on studying mechanisms of cytotoxic T cell development. Dr. Goter-Robinson’s dissertation research was an outgrowth of her research done at the FDA, where she discovered a murine model of mercury- and gold-induced autoimmunity that featured the development of antinucleolar antibodies only in certain genetically predisposed strains of mice. Dr. Goter-Robinson did postdoctoral training at the University of Maryland School of Medicine where her research focused on characterizing the role that cytotoxic T cells play in the progression from alveolitis to fibrotic lung disease in scleroderma with an emphasis on their interactions with lung fibroblasts. At the completion of this training she did some consulting work, including working contractually as an Executive Secretary for one cycle of the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program. She then spent three years as an ORISE postdoctoral fellow in the FDA’s Laboratory of Mycobacterial Diseases and Cellular Immunology. Her research there involved identifying very early correlates of protective immunity afforded by candidate tuberculosis DNA vaccines in a murine model. Her publications include 16 papers, 3 book chapters, and 22 abstracts. She is the Review Branch SRA representative on the DEAS Daily Operating Committee.
