Programs to Promote Diversity
NIDDK suppports the following programs in an effort to promote diversity in our cadre of well-trained investigators.
- Predoctoral fellowships ( F31s ) provide a stipend for an underrepresented (definition) minority graduate student or a graduate student with a disability (definition) enrolled in a program leading to the Ph.D., or equivalent, degree. For students from disadvantaged backgrounds, consult with the program director before preparing an application since eligibility related to a disadvantaged background is extraordinarily difficult to justify for individuals beyond the high school or undergraduate level. F31s are subject to the rules governing all NRSA programs.
- Supplemental slots for Institutional Training grants (T32s).
- Supplements to Research Project Grants to support individuals from underrepresented minority groups, individuals with disabilities, and individuals re-entering science after a career hiatus.
- An opportunity for networking and mentoring .
