Are you aware of the connection between heart disease and kidney disease?
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at NIH.
If you have heart disease, you’re at a greater risk for kidney disease. And, if you have kidney disease, you’re at a greater risk for heart disease. So what can you do about it?
Controlling your blood pressure is one of the most important ways to protect your heart and your kidneys.
Keep in mind, early kidney disease has no symptoms. Simple urine and blood tests can check if your kidneys are working well. If tests show that you have signs of kidney damage, the right treatment can help prevent further damage to your kidneys. If you have kidney disease, your doctor should look carefully for signs of heart disease.
