More than one-third of children and two-thirds of adults in the United States are overweight or obese, but luckily, help has arrived.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
Take a look at the new Dietary Guidelines just released by the Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services. They provide recommendations about food choices and physical activity that can help you maintain a healthy weight and lower your risk for heart disease and diabetes. The key is to balance your calories with exercise, and follow tips like these:
- avoid oversized portions.
- make half your plate fruits and vegetables.
- switch to fat-free or 1% fat milk.
- and drink more water instead of sugary drinks.
