Most people know that some men can have problems with sexual function, but some women can too, especially if they have diabetes.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you “Healthy Moments” from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
The fact is, one in four women with diabetes may experience a reduced desire or ability to engage in sexual activity. Diabetes can cause nerve damage, reduced blood flow, and hormonal changes that can result in sexual problems.
Additionally, smoking, alcohol abuse, and some medications can cause these problems.
Women who experience problems with sexual function should see a doctor who may be able to pinpoint the cause. Treatments may include medications, pelvic muscle exercises, and counseling.
And for more information, visit our website at NIDDK, or MyMajicDC.com . This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers. Join me next week for more “Healthy Moments.”
