Summer vacations and road trips are fun for the whole family. Just don’t let unhealthy habits come along for the ride.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you “Healthy Moments” from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
When you go on a summer getaway, don’t forget to stay active and make healthy food choices. It will help you avoid weight gain, which is an important part of preventing type 2 diabetes. Try these tips:
- Limit the number of sugary drinks. A reusable water bottle is a healthy travel companion.
- Physical activity shouldn’t take a vacation when you do. Find opportunities to explore the sights by walking or biking.
- When eating out, skip the French fries and choose a salad.
- And if you want dessert, share one portion with a friend.
