What kind of difference do kidney donors make? Well, just ask Kimberly…

“My name is Kimberly Plummer and I had kidney failure. At the beginning you are placed on a transplant list. They give you a ballpark, anywhere from three to seven years. I had been on the list for six years. I had a co-worker that says [sic] I think I can help you. She had been tested and she was an identical match. We got the call the day before Thanksgiving--that was my day of being thankful.”

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

Did you know that most people can donate a kidney with little risk? As we give thanks this week, think about Kimberly’s story and how you or someone you know might be able to give the best gift, the gift of life.
