This Thanksgiving and holiday season, don’t let foodborne illness spoil your fun.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
Eating food or drinking beverages that are contaminated with bacteria, viruses, or parasites can make a person very sick. And this contamination can happen right in your own home kitchen. The good news is, there are steps that you can take to keep your food safe:
- wash your hands with warm, soapy water before and after preparing food
- keep meat, poultry, seafood, and their juices away from ready-to-eat foods
- refrigerate foods within 2 hours or less after cooking
- and clean counter tops before and after using them to prepare food
And for more tips, visit our website at NIDDK or MyMajicDC.com . This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers. Join me next week for more Healthy Moments.
