If you’re pregnant, eating well and being physically active may help you have a healthy pregnancy and newborn.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

For a healthy, more comfortable pregnancy, try these tips:

If you sit in a chair most of the day, get up and move around at least once an hour. And when watching TV, stretch your legs during the commercial.

Also, go for a walk around the block or through a shopping mall. Regular, moderate-intensity exercise has great benefits for pregnant women.

Eating well is important to the health of your newborn. Have breakfast every day, eat high fiber foods, and if you have heartburn, eat small meals more often.
