05 October 2012 Statement by the U.S. Embassy on the Extradition of Five Terrorism Suspects to the U.S. for Trial   The United States is pleased that the UK judicial authorities approved the extraditions of Abu Hamza al-Masri, Adel Abdul Bary, Khalid al-Fawwaz, Babar Ahmad, and Syed Talha Ahsan to the United States to face prosecution in U.S. courts on terrorism charges.  These individuals are being transferred to the United States.

17 September 2012   DHS Presents 2 Million Dollars (1.232 Million Pounds) to Bailiwick of Jersey for Assistance in Drug Trafficking Case   Today the Bailiwick of Jersey, a UK Crown Dependency, received a check for two million dollars (about £1,232,400) from the United States Government.  Matthew Etre, U.S. Embassy London’s Attaché for U.S. Homeland Security Investigations presented the check to Timothy Le Cocq, QC, Attorney General for Jersey.

11 September 2011  9/11 Wreath Laying 11th September 2012 (8 photos at Facebook.com)   Ambassador Susman and his wife Marjorie placed a wreath at the 9/11 memorial in Grosvenor Square this morning. This afternoon as part of the International Day of Service, Embassy staff will be cleaning up the American garden in Battersea Park.

03 April 2012 Visa Processing Fees To Change  In Fiscal Year 2012, the Department of State estimates it will process 10.5 million nonimmigrant visas and one million immigrant visas and as result, they are adjusting the fees for processing these visas to better reflect the costs of providing these services.

07 March 2012 FBI Announces $1 Million Reward for Missing Retired FBI Agent Bob Levinson  This week on the five year anniversary of his disappearance, the Federal Bureau of Investigation announces a reward of up to $1,000,000 for information leading directly to the safe location, recovery and return of Robert A. Levinson.

18 October 2011 Report of the UK’s Independent Review Panel on Extradition    The Extradition Panel, appointed by the United Kingdom’s Home Secretary Theresa May in September 2010 to review the UK’s extradition practices, has concluded that the U.S.-UK treaty is balanced and fair.  The Home Secretary presented the Panel’s report to Parliament today.

09 September 2011 U.S. Embassy Volunteers Commemorate September 11th at Battersea Park’s ‘American Ground’   Nearly 100 volunteers are participating in a Day of Service to commemorate September 11th in Battersea Park.  The volunteers – from the U.S. Embassy in London, the disability gardening charity Thrive, and Wandsworth Council – are joining forces to restore the ‘American Ground,’ a 19th century garden in need of upgrading and maintenance.

28 February  2011 Beware of Diversity Visa Scams on the Internet  The U.S. Embassy in London has received thousands of enquiries from people who are victims of a world-wide scam involving the Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) Program, also known as the visa lottery.  The scammers behind these fraudulent emails and letters pose as the U.S. government in an attempt to extract payment from Diversity Visa applicants.  To avoid becoming a victim of this scam, please read the following advice from the Embassy.

26 July 2010 U.S. Letter Regarding Continued Detention of Megrahi  The July 25 Sunday Times article, “Revealed: US double-talk on Lockerbie,” included leaked excerpts of the August 12, 2009 letter from U.S. Embassy Chargé Richard LeBaron to Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond.  The article does not accurately reflect the strong and consistent opposition of the U.S. government to the release or transfer under any scenario of convicted PanAm 103 bomber Abdelbasset al-Megrahi.  We are therefore taking the exceptional step of releasing the full text of this letter and have informed British and Scottish authorities.

21 April 2010 U.S. Government Unveils New Design for the $100 Note  Officials from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Federal Reserve Board and the United States Secret Service today unveiled the new design for the $100 note. Complete with advanced technology to combat counterfeiting, the new design for the $100 note retains the traditional look of U.S. currency.

16 April 2010 Bristol Community Celebrates Social Cohesion through Music with Help of U.S. Embassy  From April 12-16, eighteen Fairfield High School students from diverse backgrounds learned improvisational techniques and traditional music skills such as rhythm, pitch and melody during a weeklong songwriting workshop aimed at encouraging individual creativity and community cohesion through music.  Three instructors from the U.S.-based Modern Improvisational Music Association (MIMA), with funding from the U.S. Embassy, led the workshops, in partnership with Bristol’s American-born High Sheriff Peaches Golding, OBE. 

29 March 2010 Wandsworth Student Wins Official Study Trip to United States  Priscilla Mensah's eyes widened and she gasped as she heard her name announced before an audience of fellow students. The student from Wandsworth's Burntwood School had just won the first prize for a speech on citizenship she had delivered at a March 24th debate competition hosted by the U.S. Embassy.

18 February 2010 First Lady Michelle Obama to Meet London Students at the White House  The American Embassy in London is pleased to announce that First Lady Michelle Obama will meet with ten students from schools across the London borough of Islington today. The visit to the White House is part of a tour of Washington D.C. funded by the American Embassy for the winners of a Black History Month essay competition held in the Islington secondary schools. 15 January 2010 U.S. Embassy London Commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The United States Embassy will commemorate the life and work of civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through two events honoring his legacy on Monday, January 18, 2010.  In the morning U.S. Ambassador Louis Susman and embassy staff will participate in a volunteer event at St. Matthias Church in Poplar and in the afternoon Ambassador Susman will host prominent civil rights activists and students for a memorial concert and reading at his residence.

11 September 2009 Ambassador and Mrs. Susman Lay Wreath for Victims of 9/11   On the morning of the eighth anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York City, Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon, Ambassador and Mrs. Susman placed a wreath at a memorial in Grosvenor Square honoring British victims. Accompanying them was Deputy Chief of Mission Richard LeBaron.

17 August 2009 New U.S Ambassador Arrives in London  Touching down at Heathrow on a direct flight from Chicago, President Obama’s new Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Louis Susman and wife Marjorie Susman, arrived in London this morning. “Marjorie and I are delighted to be here in the United Kingdom. And I am grateful to the President for the confidence that he’s shown in asking me to represent the United States with our most trusted ally,” Ambassador Susman said on arrival.

30 July 2009 Swearing In Of Louis B. Susman, New U.S. Ambassador To The Court Of St. James's  The United States Ambassador to the Court of St. James's, Louis B. Susman, was sworn in on July 29 in Washington, D.C. by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. U.K. Foreign Secretary David Miliband attended the ceremony, as did the British Ambassador to the U.S., Sir Nigel Sheinwald.

26 June 2009   On July 28, 2008, Ambassador Tuttle at the American Embassy in London received a letter from an organization called Marine Environmental Monitoring. They said that an American seaturtle, called a Kemp’s Ridley seaturtle had been found in Devon in January 2007, and had been nursed back to health, but that they were having trouble getting the necessary paperwork to return the turtle to the United States. Could we help, they asked? U.S. Embassy London's involvement in her rescue is shown here on our Youtube video.

12 March 2009 Response to the Shooting of Policeman in Northern Ireland  The United States commends the people of Northern Ireland and the authorities of the United Kingdom and Ireland for their constructive response to recent sectarian murders. It is clear that the vast majority of people reject violence and murder as the tools of terrorism, not politics.

14 January 2009 Making Sure The Honeymoon Isn't Over : Newlyweds Advised to Avoid Post-Dated Passports if Travelling to the U.S.  Travelers engaged to be married and planning to use a post-dated passport with a new surname to travel to the America for their honeymoon should be aware of changes in travel procedures that could affect their trip. This is due to the New Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) which recognizes only current and not post-dated passports. While ESTA can accommodate last-minute applications, honeymooners may want to consider obtaining a new passport in their married name after their trip.

07 January 2009 Less Than One Week Away: New Travel Procedures Become Mandatory For British Citizens Traveling to the United States  In less than one week, British citizens eligible to travel to the United States on the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) will need to register on line with the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) before departure. Beginning January 12, all nationals and citizens of Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries - including the UK - will be required by law to get travel authorization prior to boarding the airplane.

09 January 2009 U.S. Embassy Press Notice on Guantanamo Bay  Reports in the media suggesting that U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom Robert Tuttle had confirmed that talks with the UK about Guantanamo Bay detainees were at an advanced stage and that a "formal request" had been made to the UK to accept detainees are erroneous.

12 December 2008 One Month Away: New Requirements for British Citizens Traveling to the U.S.  A rough estimate of the number of UK travelers heading to the U.S. next month indicates only about 50 percent of those who qualify to travel visa-free are registering with the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). The goal is to have 100 percent of all eligible UK travelers signed on by January 12 - just one month from now - when ESTA registration in advance of travel becomes mandatory.

24 November 2008 ESTA : New Requirements for British Citizens Traveling to the United States  Beginning 12 January 2009, all nationals and citizens of Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries - including the UK - will be required by law to obtain a travel authorization prior to traveling to the United States under the VWP. Travelers can register for authorization online through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), a free Internet application administered by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through a U.S. government Web site. This web site is available today and all UK citizens planning to travel to the US in the future are encouraged to apply now.

21 November 2008 Don't Gamble on Fraud to Win the Diversity Visa Lottery  Unscrupulous businesses and attorneys are trying to lure British citizens into participating in a visa program that's not available to them. The U.S. Embassy in London has received reports of organizations which claim that - for a fee - they can make it easier to enter or win the U.S. State Department's annual Diversity Visa (DV) lottery, also known as the "green card lottery."
