    Where can HHS employees attend classroom-based training?
    While the HHS University does not offer classroom based training, you may find the following link useful in searching for the right classroom based training for you and your office: http://hhsu.learning.hhs.gov/Learning/hhsudiscontinuedclassroom.asp

    Will HHS U resume offering classroom based training?
    Not in the foreseeable future.

    We still feel that customized training is more suited to our organization, how can we organize this?
    Specific OPDIV (Operating Division) Training Department or Training Administrators still offer classroom based training. Please contact HHS U at 1(301) 451-6810 for more information.

    Can HHS U recommend a vendor to facilitate our instructor led training?
    Yes. HHS U can provide a list of vendors that can facilitate learners' instructor-led training needs.

    What services will HHS University offer as a result of the transition from classroom-based training?
    HHSU will continue developing online courses that will be equivalent to instructor led training courses. Please send an email to HHS U Helpdesk at DHHSHelp@hhs.gov for more information.

    How do I partner with HHS U to develop online training?

    How do I find my username and password?
    On the Login Page, the browser address below: https://iam.hhs.gov/opensso/SimpleLogin.jsp, click the Need Help link. This page will list all instructions on how to locate your username and password.

    Is there a list of online courses?
    Learners can search for online courses in the HHS Learning Portal's online Catalog Search Portlet.

    How do I enroll for online courses?
    After locating your desired course, click the Register link just below the course description.

    What is SkillSoft?
    SkillSoft is the primary vendor for some the online courses present in the HHS Learning Portal.

    Where do I go or who should I contact to get help with my online course if I need it?
    Some courses are OPDIV (Operating Division) specific with the exception of SkillSoft courses. Learners may contact specific OPDIV Domain Administrators as well as the HHS University Helpdesk for assistance.

    Do I need to go online at any particular time?
    With the exception of scheduled maintenance and emergency down times, the HHS Learning Portal is available at all times of the day and week.

    How many online courses can I take at a time?
    Learners may take as many courses as are available.

    Can I pause my training and resume the course from where I left out?
    While this is true for many courses, some courses do not have bookmark capabilities and would require re-start.

    Are the fundamental courses targeted towards first time users?
    Most available courses specify appropriate target audience.

    What are the system requirements to access the online training?
    Hardware Requirements:
    • Minimum 400 MHz CPU, minimum 1 GHz recommended to support audio playback
    • Minimum 128 MB RAM
    • Network connection to the web server via a web browser
    • Minimum video resolution of 800 x 600 16-bit color, 1024 x 768 recommended
    • Minimum 28.8 connection speed, 56K or high-speed Internet access recommended for online players
    • Speakers or headphones to listen to DialogueR streaming audio sessions
    • A microphone to speak in DialogueR streaming audio sessions
    • Minimum G3 machine, minimum 256 MB RAM for MacintoshR

    Are the online training courses 508 Compliant?
    Currently, we are reviewing our extensive catalog to make sure all online courses are section 508 compliant.

    How does HHS online learning differ from other distance learning programs offered through say a School of Continuing Studies?
    HHS U online learning is government-themed. The courses include mandatory training for all of HHS employees.

    Are there CEU's associated with the online courses?
    Online courses with Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are labeled as appropriate.

    Will I earn college credit for any of the classes that I take online?
    HHSU is not an accredited institution at this time. However, HHSU is in the initiation phase of partnering with colleges for certain courses.

    How much does it cost to take online classes?
    Most online courses present in the HHS Learning Portal are free.

    HHS Appropriations Law FAQs (for registrations/enrollments on or after 4/18/2011)

    Where can HHS employees take the HHS Appropriations Law course?
    Answer: The HHS Appropriations Law course is available in the HHS Learning Portal (also known as the Learning Management system or LMS) at https://lms.learning.hhs.gov.
    How do I register for the course?
    Answer: Upon logging in to the HHS Learning Portal, on the Search field type in “HHS Appropriations Law” or “00028634”, then click the Go button. The page will list the course; click the Register link below the course description.
    Is this course free of charge?
    Answer: The HHS Appropriations Law course cost is $0.00.
    How long is this course?
    Answer: It is approximately 4 to 16 hours long, so it is advisable to take it ahead of time (before any mandated deadline).
    What is the deadline for taking the HHS Appropriations Law course?
    Answer: The deadline for HHS Appropriations Law course for FY2011 is June 30, 2011.
    Who needs to take this course?
    - The following OPDIV and STAFFDIV personnel must successfully complete the HHS Appropriations Law course:
    • Budget/Finance Officials: All funds certifying officials for proposed contracts, orders or modifications of any dollar value.
    • Program Officials:
      1. Project Officers: All employees who will serve as project officers for at least one FY 2011 acquisition over $150,000 (the simplified acquisition threshold).
      2. Project/Program Managers: All employees who will serve as project/program managers – whether or not they have received a Federal Acquisition Certification in Program / Project Management (FAC-P/PM) – for a project/program encompassing at least one FY 2011 acquisition over $500,000.
    • Contracting Officials: All contract specialists, contracting officers and purchasing agents, regardless of job series.
    If we cannot finish it in one sitting, will our progress be saved?
    Answer: Yes, your progress will be saved. To resume the course, you can access it from your Enrollments Page and launch the course.
    How many modules are in the course?
    Answer: Learners will need to complete all eight (8) modules.
    Can we skip certain Modules in the course?
    Answer: Each module has a scored test at the end that learners need to take and pass to be able to complete the entire course.
    What is the score needed to pass the tests?
    Answer: All module tests should be passed with 70% or higher score. If the score is below 70%, you will have to review the material and take it again.
    Are there a Pre and Post- Test for this course?
    Answer: The only required tests for this course are the eight (8) Module Tests at the end of each module.
    Who do I contact for content feedback?
    Answer: The HHS Office of Grants and Acquisition Policy and Accountability has established an email account to submit questions and request clarification regarding the course content, please send your inquiries to: OGAPA@hhs.gov.
    Who do I contact in case technical difficulties arise?

    Answer: All module tests as well as the Post-Test should be passed with 80% or higher score. If the score is below 80%, you will have to review the material and take it again.
    Can we skip the Pre-Test? If so, how?
    Answer: Yes, learners can skip the Pre-Test by clicking the Menu Tab on the upper part of the screen.
    I failed the Post-Test; it is possible to retake the test?
    Answer: Yes, learners can re-take the Post-Test by accessing the Transcript Page and pressing the View Content link then clicking the Launch Content under the Actions Column. However, do not click on the completed modules before retaking the test, as you will be required to take the modules again.
    I failed the Post-Test; do I need to re-take the modules I have completed before re-taking the Post-Test?
    Answer: It is possible to retake the post test without retaking all 8 modules, provided learners do not click on the completed modules upon re-launch. It may require taking at least the first module test again before being re-directed to the post test.
    I want to review previous modules, will I have to re-take the test at the end?
    Answer: Please note that opening previously completed modules will mark that module in progress, which means that learners will have to re-take the module test at the end of each re-opened module.
